When Willa’s brother is diagnosed with schizophrenia, her entire life is turned upside down. Her once-close relationship with her brother Liam is fractured, her family is in turmoil, and her plans to go to film school are circling the drain. Her future is less certain than ever, and with their shared genetics, she’s afraid it might start looking a lot like her brother’s. When she discovers that her new camcorder can show the future of the people she films…well, that changes everything. Or, at least, it could.
When Willa films herself, she discovers that her future is tied with her brother’s. If she can fix his future, she can have a future of her own. It’s a win-win: Liam’s prognosis will improve enough that he can live on his own, and she’ll get to go to the college of her dreams. Maybe they can even feel like a normal family again. With the help of the camcorder, Willa is able to manipulate the present to change Liam’s future for the better—for a while. When all of Willa’s meddling starts to make her brother’s future worse instead of better, she seeks answers about the camcorder’s origins and comes up against a terrifying truth: the camcorder has ruined lives before. The control Willa has over the situation is an illusion, and Liam will pay the price for her ambition.
